Address of the Grand Master
M.E. & S.Kt. Paul Clement, G.C.M.
Tuesday, 20 November 2018
Brother Knights, we are fast approaching the conclusion of what, I hope for all of you, has been a most happy and memorable Great Priory meeting. I shall certainly reflect on today with fond memories of one of the finest Installations of a Knight of Malta I have ever witnessed and I do thank and congratulate the Great Prior of Malta and those Great Officers who supported him so admirably, making this a very special occasion for us all and, I am certain, for our Candidate, Brother Knight Martin Kozelj of the Carantania Preceptory and Priory in Slovenia, and, at this juncture, I would like to offer a warm welcome to our two other Brother Knights from the Carantania Preceptory and Priory who have come to support Knight Martin.
It has also been an enormous privilege to invest so many Brother Knights with their well-earned Malta Ranks. I do hope that this will lead you to be further inspired to promote the Order of Malta in your Provinces and Priories and make every Malta Ceremony a special event for the Candidates, just as it was intended to be.
We all, I am sure, would wish to offer our congratulations to our two newly invested Knights Commander, R.E.Kt. Paul Grafton and R.E.Kt. Tim Wheeler. Your new dignity will be well received by all Brother Knights and we wish you both every happiness for the future and many years of service in your new ranks.
It’s not every year, at this November Great Priory, that we are blessed with guests from Sister Great Priories and Overseas Constitutions, but this year we are doubly blessed to have with us, our good friend,
R.E.Kt. Dominique Madej, the Great Prior of Malta of the Great Priory of France, accompanied by
E.Kt. Ronald Barham, P.Gt.Mar. E.Kt. Alan Guest of the Province of Guyenne.
M.E.Kt. Bogdan Atanasiu, the Grand Master of the Order of the Knights Freemasons of Romania, who is with us for the first time. A very warm fraternal welcome to you both.
From within our own Constitution, we enjoy the support of many Heads of Other Masonic Orders, all of whom do so much for Knight Templar Masonry in their own right.
We are delighted to have with us
R.E.Kt. Graham Leslie Flight K.C.M., Grand Sovereign of the Grand Conclave of the Order of the Red Cross of Constantine
R.E.Kt.Kessick John Jones K.C.M., Grand Master of the Grand Council of the Order of Royal and Select Masters.
R.E.Kt.Andrew Christopher Sweeney K.C.M., Grand Supreme Ruler of the Grand Conclave of the Order of the Secret Monitor.
R.E.Kt. John Roger Paternoster K.C.M., Supreme Magus of the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia.
V.E.Kt.Christopher Gavin Maiden P.Gt.Capt-General, Grand High Priest of the Grand College of Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests and Order of Holy Wisdom.
E.Kt. Ian Stanley Currans P.Gt.2nd Lieut., Grand Summus of the Grand Senatus of the Order of the Scarlet Cord.
Now let’s show our appreciation to these distinguished Knights.
Finally, we have with us some of our own Brother Knights who have travelled great distances to be at this Chapter of Great Priory.
From the Province of South America
E.Kt.Jayme Barboza de Freitas Filho, who received Past Great Admiral
E.Kt.Wagner Rodrigues who also received Past Great Admiral, and
E.Kt. Altair Salesio Rodrigues who was invested as Past Great Baillie.
From our Province of South East Asia
E.Kt. Karl Nikolai Nadrianov who received Past Great Turcopolier and is supported by
E.Kt. Captain Julian Christopher Patrick Brown.
E.Kt Hugo Rietveld who is now our Great Baillie, and
Knights Alessandro Cololli and Roberto Pertile
Something quite rare is to have a full complement of Active Great Officers at the two tables. We almost made it today but unfortunately suffered a few last minute casualties. Our outgoing Great 1st Lieutenant, however, V.E.Kt. His Honour Mr.Justice Thomas Cloete has travelled over six and a half thousand miles to deliver his single sentence which, we have worked out, equates to 433 miles per word. Now that’s what I call dedication to duty, but it’s so good to have him here, along with all our seasoned travellers and I know you will want to show your appreciation to all of them in the time honoured fashion.
Before closing, I must express my thanks to the Great Vice-Chancellor and his staff and the Great Mareschal and his team, in which I include the Grand Master’s Body Guard, for all they do to make these occasions so successful and enjoyable for us all. And, we must not forget John Vasquez and Barry Stedman here at Freemasons’ Hall, who ‘stage manage’ our proceedings so well.
Brother Knights, the Festive Season fast approaches, a time for members of this Christian Order to renew their commitments to their faith and to one another. At 5.00pm on Christmas Day we remember our Brother Knights throughout the world wherever they may be as they in turn celebrate the birth of the Great Captain under whose Banner we have all enlisted. Let us as true soldiers of the Cross strive to profit from the Birth, Life, Death, Resurrection and Ascension of our Divine Master and continue his faithful soldiers until time shall be no more. May we all be blessed with the spirit of Christmas which is Peace and Hope, and most importantly, Charity to all.
Thank you Brother Knights
